Sister DeBorah Williams for Atlanta City Council District 4

Sister DeBorah Williams for Atlanta City Council District 4 GO SISTER GO! Elect Sister DeBorah Williams for Atlanta City Council District 4! Sister DeBorah decided to do something about.

20 years ago, Sister DeBorah Williams moved into her home in West End Atlanta and started a big change. Her neighbor, Mother Clyde, was not happy with an empty nearby lot that sat open for drug dealers to traffic. She involved the neighborhood youth and seniors to change the lot into a community garden and became a Master Gardener, herself. The Mother Clyde Community Garden has not only produced edible fruits and vegetables over the years, but has been producing ideas, entrepreneurs, future projects and Sister DeBorah’s evolution into a civic leader and community activist. Her mission is to provide the neighborhood residents with self-sufficiency. She is doing just that with the garden influenced R.E.D.E.E.M. Community Outreach Inc. , where she is the founder and Executive Director. She has also founded West End Neighborhood Association Residents (W.E.N.A.R), a R.E.D.E.E.M. project that continues to reap awards through their annual National Night Out Block Party and Back to School Bash. She holds many awards including the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolence and Social Change Award and the most recent, Cox Conserves Heroes Award. She is a woman excited about her community and believes “If you have been REDEEMed… you ought to say so!”

Sisiter DeBorah asks, "What is the 'right way' to feed a hingry person?" She will be issuing a statement soon on the new so-called public education effort launched by Atlanta's current political regime called 'Partner for Hope' launched to supposedly address the problems associated with public feedings and donations in our parks, parking lots, and streets. Stay tuned and informed! - CESB

"In our experience, the best way to assist people in need is through places with sanitary kitchens, safe shelter, and services that help them address their problems and move forward in their lives. By contrast, feeding and donating to people on our streets is not a long term solution. We find that many people become dependent on these activities, leading them to stay on the streets instead of seeking the help and support that they truly need. Street feedings also pose public health risks for those being fed and sanitation problems for the City.

Rather than feeding or donating to individuals on Atlanta’s streets, please consider directing your generosity to one of the great organizations working tirelessly to improve the lives of people in need in our communities. Whether you wish to volunteer in a kitchen, provide hands-on support, or give food and other resources—there are plenty of opportunities to partner with a local organization that shares your mission."
