As part of a revision and broadening of the Institute for Liberal Arts (ILA’s) undergraduate programs, the Interdisciplinary Exploration and Scholarship (IDEAS) Fellowship was created to help students reimagine how we learn across disciplines. The dynamic students in the Fellowship, from disciplines spanning biology, creative writing, international studies, philosophy and others, work in weekly lu
nch sessions to identify strengths in Emory’s current approach to the liberal arts and to discuss, with experience from a student’s perspective, what might allow students to better understand the personal and professional value of Emory’s liberal arts traditions and to integrate their experiences into a coherent whole. The Fellows seek to imagine new forms of education and student interaction that would help undergraduates better integrate and value their liberal arts education at Emory. They serve as catalysts for the intellectual community on campus.
