Did You Know?
Why Reading Below Level Is A Concern? A strong reading foundation is critical, especially in the early years. A child who isn't reading on grade level by the end of first grade is at high risk of reading below grade level in fourth grade and beyond. This can affect performance across all subjects, not just reading, as students need to be able to comprehend textbooks and other course materials.
Without early intervention, the gap can widen over time, with serious consequences for long-term academic achievement.

Reading Tip 🎤 To encourage reading with your child, make it a daily, fun routine by reading aloud together for at least 15 minutes, asking questions, using different voices for each character in the story.
Reading Tip‼️Allow your child to choose books that interest them. Point to words as you read, use funny voices, and discuss the story to engage your child and connect reading to their experiences. Ask questions during and after reading, such as what might happen next or who their favorite character is.

Children who are read aloud to by parents get a head start in language and literacy skills and go to school better prepared. It is one of the best things you can do for their development. Children learn new words when they hear them read aloud. The more words they know, the better they will be able to communicate and learn. Reading aloud helps children develop their comprehension skills. They learn to follow along with a story, understand the characters and plot, and make predictions about what will happen next.
Knowing how to read is crucial for a child's development. Children who read well tend to perform better in school, have an easier time learning new information. The ability to read is a foundational skill that has far-reaching benefits for a child's development and future success.
Parents can help boost their child’s reading comprehension at home by actively engaging with their children during reading. This includes reading aloud, discussing the text, and connecting it to real-life experiences. Reading aloud is one of the most important things parents can do with their children. Reading aloud also exposes students to a wider vocabulary and model fluent reading.
