The University of South Florida’s School of Theatre and Dance is excited to announce the appointment of our newest tenure-earning faculty member, Jennifer Archibald.
Jennifer Archibald is one of the most recognized names in the dance world, achieving notoriety as a choreographer whose award-winning creative body of work defies categorization. She is one of those rare choreographers whose work reaches audiences from the arenas to the concert halls. Her aesthetic is rooted in hip hop, contemporary and commercial forms, though she has gained career-defining success through her work with major ballet companies. She was appointed the first female Resident Choreographer in Cincinnati Ballet’s 40-year history where her blend of movement styles found new audiences and achieved new levels of critical praise. Her work has been commissioned by major dance companies including the National Ballet of Canada, Ballet X, Ailey II, BalletMet, the Washington Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Ballet West, Grand Rapids Ballet, Kansas City Ballet, Oregon Ballet Theatre, Pittsburgh Ballet, Sacramento Ballet, Tulsa Ballet, Smuin Contemporary Ballet, and the Kennedy Centre’s Pathways to Performance program. She has worked commercially for NIKE, MAC Cosmetics, Tommy Hilfiger, as well as chart-listed artists, and has choreographed the opening for K-Pop Fan & Artist Festival’s annual conference (KCON) at the Crypto Arena in Los Angeles on multiple occasions. She is the founder and Artistic Director of the Arch Dance Company and Program Director of ArchCore40 Dance Intensives.
Among her many academic achievements, she has been a Lecturer in Acting at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University for over 10 years and was appointed as a Guest Faculty Lecturer to develop the Hip Hop dance curriculum at Barnard College/Columbia University. She is a graduate of The Alvin Ailey School and the Maggie Flanigan Acting Conservatory and received her MFA in Dance from Jacksonville University.
Professor Archibald will bring an extraordinary dynamism to the highly ranked USF Dance Program, while still maintaining an international presence as a sought-after choreographer of the very highest caliber. Her dual commitment as both a globally active artist and a dedicated educator embodies the values of USF’s School of Theatre and Dance, where innovation, relevance and excellence intersect. With her expansive background across ballet, contemporary, hip hop, and commercial dance, Professor Archibald brings an exceptional breadth of vision, and creative expertise. USF is excited to have an artist of her distinction as part of its stellar faculty.
