"While inducing low-income people to borrow money they can't repay for an education they can't use is likely the worst consequence of federal higher ed subsidies, we also know now that easy lending has inflated the cost of 'good' colleges and universities, which compete with each other by upping costs in order to suck up subsidies that they can invest in prestige points rather than workforce preparation: nicer buildings, fancier dining services, more extracurriculars, and an abundance of non-academic staff to make attendees—particularly those at nonprofit liberal arts colleges, which progressives seldom criticize for their ever-increasing sticker prices—feel like they're staying at a resort with the occasional class."

Do you dream of seeing your byline in outlets like the Wall Street Journal, National Review, or Reason Magazine? Apply for the Writing Fellows Program by May 3 for the chance to learn from established writers and editors how to hone your skills, pitch your work, and pursue a career in writing.
The Washington, DC-based fellowship is tailored for aspiring writers interested in covering issues and publishing in outlets surrounding our nation’s capital. The DC-based fellowship typically meets in-person on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 pm ET from June 9 through July 21 and features prominent writers and editors from the DC area. As we continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation, the Washington, DC-based Summer 2021 fellowship may meet virtually for all or part of the fellowship.
