We believe young children readily absorb the world; our prepared environment nurtures natural curiosity and lays the foundation for all future development.
We believe pre-school children possess a remarkable ability to absorb the world that surrounds them. Maria Montessori believed that the years from 2 to 6 are the most critical period for nurturing a child’s natural curiosity and for laying the foundation for all future development. The goal of Peachtree City Montessori is to foster independence and to support children into moving towards a mastery
of self and the environment. Our classroom is a prepared Montessori environment designed to encourage children in their self directed discovery of the world. Interest-based activities encourage children to develop a love of learning and a trust in their own ability to learn. Fundamental to the Montessori theory is the multi-aged classroom. Our classroom includes children ages 2 ½ to 6. Children may work either individually, or in small groups, learning from and sharing with one another. Our environment is warm and inviting. It is a very comfortable place to learn and grow. Peachtree City Montessori is open Monday-Friday, 7:45-2:45. Our Primary Program is a Monday-Friday full day program. We offer a morning or full day program for our Pre-Primary students. Both programs are five days a week 7:45-12 or 7:45-2:45. These programs include practical life, sensorial, cultural, math and language activities. The program at Peachtree City Montessori helps children develop a rapport with their environment which supports them as they develop physical, social and intellectual independence. The teacher intensely follows each child, presenting carefully designed lessons and materials on a one on one basis as the child is ready. The following areas of exploration are included in our program:
Practical life: Through practical life activities, children acquire many daily living skills: preparing food, fastening clothes and caring for their environment. These activities also help children extend their powers of concentration and develop coordinated movements. Sensorial activities: Through interaction with sensorial materials that are self-correcting and which isolate one quality (such as color or shape) children experience the world through their senses, in a way that establishes the physical and mental foundation for further learning. Language activities: Peachtree City Montessori is a language rich environment. Through a variety of language activities and materials, children become familiar with sounds and symbols and begin the process of writing, which naturally leads to reading. Mathematics: With our program, children begin to explore mathematical relationships by manipulating concrete materials (such as number rods) that are designed to isolate a concept and prepare them for abstract reasoning. The goals of the program are for each child to develop a love of numbers, problem solving strategies, computational skills and confidence in using numbers in everyday life. Cultural activities: Art, music, science and geography are integrated into the whole language experience. Living plants, animals and hands on materials are part of the classroom, allowing children to develop skills in science observation and comparison. Also, the study of different countries and cultures add to their experience. Social activities: In a Montessori classroom, children experience the balance between the freedom of the individual and the concerns of the group. Other social behaviors that flourish in Montessori classroom are responsibility for one’s own behavior, respect for others and care for the environment. Physical education: Montessori philosophy is different from traditional pre-school environments in that children are free to choose their activities and move about the room. Through natural physical activity, children expend energy and develop large and small muscle coordination. After work period, students have a play period outside (weather permitting). In addition, we have music and movement during group time. PTC Montessori is in transition to a new location and under new management.
