Did you know credit is determined by 5 primary factors:
1) Payment history. This includes history on your accounts, both positive and negative.
2) The amount you owe. This score is based on your "Utilization rate", which is the debt you carry as a percentage of your limit.
3) The length of time you have had credit. The older your account, the better.
4) The type of credit you have. Credit bureaus want to see a "Healthy mix" of credit on your report.
5) Credit Inquiries. To many many inquiries ( i.e. potential lenders requesting your credit score) in a one year period will hurt your score.

Your credit score aka FICO score is a three-digit rating that generally ranges from 300 to 850, though some bureaus have raised the cap to 900. The score is based on constantly changing mathematical formulas used by lenders to predict whether a borrower will pay debt on time and in full. In general, lenders provide the best interest rates to borrowers with credit scores of 720 or higher. Borrowers with scores below 620 are considered "subprime" borrowers. Considered high risk, these borrowers are given higher interest rates.
