First Year Experience, in conjunction with the Interface Lecture Series and the Center for Applied Gaming and Media Arts presents its Fall Speaker: Ian Schreiber of Global Game Jam on Friday, October 5 at 11am in the Student Center Theater. Come hear Ian speak, stay for the Q&A, and bring (or buy) his book for the book signing.
We call this event Convocation, but instead of asking Faculty to wear robes, First Year students are being encouraged to wear the T-Shirt they received at Journey Orientation. The color of the shirt indicates in which academic school is their major.
As a motivator, the school with the highest level of participation wins a pizza party and bragging rights until the Spring Lecture!
So, everyone come to the lecture, and wear your Journey T-shirt. Your school can win a pizza party! If you have any questions, please contact me ([email protected]).
Ian Schreiber has worked in the game industry as a programmer and game designer since 2000. He has contributed to seven shipped titles, including online trading card games, console games, and even some "serious games" for corporate training. He has taught at the college level since 2006, with two-year and four-year colleges and universities, both in person and online. He co-authored the book Challenges for Game Designers which is in use at Southern Polytechnic State University.
Mr Schreiber is a member of the International Game Developers Association, and was the MVP Award recipient in 2009. He Co-founded Global Game Jam and is their global coordinator. The 2012 Game Jam was held in 242 locations worldwide, with 10,684 individuals participating and 2,209 game projects created. Jam sites were organized in a record 47 countries.
See you all there!

You should be in our upcoming SPSU photo shoot!! Read on...
The first ever large-scale photo shoot involving the entire SPSU community has been rescheduled for Tues., Sept. 25, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. on the turf field next to the Gymnasium (across from the Architecture Building).
All SPSU administrators, faculty, staff and students are invited to participate, so please help us to spread the word! We need enough people to form a large SPSU hexagon. We will provide the special T-shirts to be worn in the photo, and you will get to keep them.
This is a one hour commitment, so participants must make themselves available the entire hour for this massive undertaking. The resulting photo will be featured in the SPSU Magazine and on the university website.
If you have any additional questions please e-mail [email protected]. See you there next week!
