BRENDA: a short film 10/07/2021

Check out a newly launched Kickstarter by Arbor Alumni Bernadette Bridges, Class of 2011. She writes:

For those who don't know me, my name is Bernadette Bridges. I graduated from Arbor in 2011 and recently came back to speak at the 2019 Arbor graduation. After Arbor, I attended Lakeside High School and then, in 2019, I graduated cm laude from Columbia University where I earned a B.A. in Creative Writing with a minor in Film.

I am gearing up to make my first short film. As a q***r, female writer and director, my priority is to tell womxn-centered stories—a passion that was instilled in me from very early on by the community of strong women at Arbor who kindled my passion for the arts: Patty O'Keefe Hutton, Brenda Bunch, Cindy Ragozzine, Kate Ramsey, Jacqui Miller, Barbara Fox, Annie Frazer, and the list goes on and on.

The film I am about to make, entitled BRENDA, is a comedic short film about a day in the life of an old woman named Brenda. It's an ode to the hope found in everyday interactions with other human beings—how we're never really as alone as we may feel—a theme that I have found particularly meaningful throughout our time in quarantine.

T[he film's Kickstarter fundraiser has recently launched and we have 30 days from today to raise $10,000. The film is a project helmed by myself and my older brother, Julian Bridges, another Arbor Alumni (Class of 2007) and a recent alumni of University of Southern California's graduate film school!

Any support from the Arbor community would mean the world to me, especially given the film's theme and the fact that Arbor has always felt like a support-system to which I can return time and time again.

BRENDA: a short film A day in the life of Brenda, a lonely old woman with a dream.

As a non-profit organization, Arbor relies on fundraising, and one of the most critical efforts is our Annual Fund drive. Money raised during the Annual Fund goes toward many different areas including: need-based scholarships, our fantastic sports teams, and providing additional training opportunities for our wonderful faculty and staff.

An anonymous donor has pledged to match each gift dollar-for-dollar, up to $10,000 in October. We encourage our community to participate to help us take full advantage of this generous offer! For those families who have already pledged their donations, thank you for your generosity.
