Safety Tip Tuesday: Too Late for a Plan
This poster deals with PT3 (Premature Termination of the Tow) accidents. It is important to think ahead and come up with a plan if things start to go wrong on tow, "winging it" isn't an option.
PT3 accidents happen when we run out of ideas before we run out of altitude. Always have your "land straight ahead" or "180-turn" plan locked in before the launch.

Guion “Guy” Bluford was the first Black American in space as a mission specialist aboard the space shuttle ''Challenger'' in 1983. Of 10,000 applicants to the NASA space program, Guion S. Bluford was one of 35 chosen to join the new space shuttle team in January 1978.Born in Philadelphia, Bluford was interested in math and science and had dreams of working in aerospace engineering before graduating high school. However, his high school counselor suggested that college was not for him.Ignoring the advice, Bluford became the only black engineering student at Pennsylvania State University in 1960. Undaunted, he graduated with a degree in aerospace engineering in 1964 and went through pilot training at Williams Air Force Base in Arizona where he received his pilot wings one year later.
On August 30, 1983, he rode into Earth orbit on the shuttle orbiter Challenger; he subsequently flew on three additional shuttle missions between 1985 and 1992. He left NASA in July 1993 for a private-sector career in the information technology and engineering services field.
