Congratulations to Pam Williams from Appling County who was named the Georgia State Teacher of the Year on May 14th at the Georgia Aquarium. Ms. Wlliams currently teaches Economics and American Government at Appling County High School and is scheduled to go on tour this coming school year as an advocate for public education and an ambassador for the teaching profession.

We also want to extend an emphatic congratulations to Kelly Burke of Woodstock High School in Cherokee County. Ms. Burke was nominated by her peers and selected by the county as a state finalist. She teaches AP Physics in addition to coordinating the regional science Olympiad competition, serving on her School Improvement Committee, and as the faculty sponsor for the National Honor Society. She serves as the school's science department chairwoman. Ms. Burke was also selected by her students as Woodstock High School's 2009 Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) award teacher.

Cherokee County considers making Mill Creek Middle School a grade six through grade eight school and rezoning Moore Elementary School and Clayton Elementary School. Visit the Cherokee Ledger for more news and information.

School board hears zoning suggestions Recommendations were made to the Cherokee County School Board that Mill Creek Middle School become a grade six through grade eight school. Also, a suggestion was made that R.M. Moore Elementary and Clayton Elementary attendance zones be altered to accommodate future growth.
