Congratulations to Dr. Monica Newton on her election to the Board of Directors of the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM)!

Each year, ABFM elects only two family medicine physicians to serve in this prestigious role. The ABFM is responsible for establishing the standards for board certification in family medicine and, in recent years, has played a critical role in defining residency training outcomes, which is helping to shape both the scope and future direction of the specialty.

Through its highly innovative foundation, ABFM has also supported residency redesign initiatives and learning collaboratives that have been instrumental in advancing family medicine education nationwide.

Dr. Newton’s election is a significant accomplishment and a testament to her leadership, expertise, and long-standing commitment to advancing family medicine. She will serve a five-year term on the 16-member board, which includes both physician and public representatives.
Congratulations on this well-deserved honor!

To the Cath lab or not?

In two high-acuity simulation scenarios, a PGY-4 Cardiovascular disease fellow faced the real-world complexity of managing a post-op LVAD patient with RV failure and a COVID-positive STEMI patient, while navigating physician negotiation around contested treatment decisions. World class training! Thank you sim team!
