While you’re squeezing in the final weeks of pool time, let us show you a pool on campus you’ve never seen. It’s not for swimming though: This 24-foot deep pool is used for underwater acoustic experiments. ME researchers float small boats on the surface and use a 3-ton crane to submerge equipment. The water is heavily chlorinated and really cold … so best stick to the CRC pool for cooling off.

The Structural Engineering and Materials Lab at Georgia Tech is an 18,000-square-foot space large enough to hold six tennis courts. Here, structural engineers have set up labs to conduct research for impact loads on structures, bridge designs, robotics for automative modular construction processes, and more.

With 1,500 square feet of flight space and ceilings that soar more than 20 feet high, Georgia Tech’s Indoor Flight Lab (IFL) is one of the largest facilities of its kind at a university.

The IFL’s main purpose is to experiment with new types of drone technology that allows them to perform new types of missions.

The IFL allows researchers to first test and refine systems in a controlled, safe environment with 56 motion-capture cameras monitoring.
