This week’s Words of Wisdom comes from a conversation between Ms. Nellie and PK Beville.
Ms. Nellie told me, “Don’t give up. You gotta see what the end is gonna be. Most of the time, it’s good.”
I have thought about those words several times since she said them.
Ms. Nellie is in her 90s and is absolutely full of life. When I looked at her sitting in front of me, I couldn’t help but think about everything she has lived through. The good times, the hard times, the changes in our world, the losses, the celebrations, and all the moments in between.
And after all of it, she still shines!
Beautiful on the outside, yes but even more beautiful on the inside.
Her words reminded me that sometimes what feels like an ending really isn’t an ending at all. It may simply be the beginning of the next chapter.
Every day, Nellie visits other residents where she lives. I can only imagine the joy, encouragement, and friendship she brings with her as she makes those rounds. And I hope the team caring for everyone there realizes what a gift they have walking among them every day.
There is so much we can learn from people who have already traveled roads we are still trying to navigate.
“Keep going. Don’t give up. See what the end is going to be. Most of the time, it’s good.”
I want to be like Nellie.
Still curious.
Still encouraging others.
Still finding joy.
Still shining.
