Good article that shows a meaningful way to display data, in this case gas prices, and relate them to how many hours you have to work to fill your car. It's a great example of how to properly display information.
Why $4.01 gas in Mississippi hurts more than $5.72 gas in California
Here's where drivers are feeling the most pain from gas prices.

I thought these interesting statistics would appeal to all you sports fans and at the same time show how hard it is to find statistics that are meaningful. They need to be put into context to have meaning and this write does it well. A fun read.

I never thought that my profession would be considered perilous. Data Science and Statistics, danger ahead! I did design and teach a class in "defensive statistics" for hospital nurses who were constantly attacked by doctors about their use of statistical terms. That was fun. I guess they thought they were in danger.
The perils of being a statistician general are never ending
Opinion: As evidence-based decision-making becomes more widespread, the risk of feedback increases, which is a great danger for statistics and their quality as well as for statisticians writes Dr Pali Lehohla.

This is a good basic article that we should all learn from if we don't already know it, and teach our kids. I taught my kids this stuff when they were about in the 3rd grade when we would watch TV together. Whenever an advertisement would come on I'd ask them questions like this about the ad claims. It didn't take long for them to stop believing all ads. Good.

I'm sharing this to show my disgust at how the media reports on anything involving statistics. If it happens to be true and you are a woman who wants to get married, keep a close watch on the age of who you date.

Zombie movies prepared you for the pandemic
Tales of post-apocalyptic landscapes in which few survivors emerge into a new and much different world have long been popular tales woven by screenwriters and authors. While many enjoy these stories, thinking of them as nothing but a guilty pleasure, they may not realize that immersing themselves in...

My posts have been focused on unusual events that involve data or statistics. It has been harder and harder to find the 'weird' news I look for because the entire world seems to be weird these days, and all for the same boring but terrible reason, pandemics and politics.
This is the best I could come up with this month. You can't make good decisions without good data. I had no idea that the entire continent of Africa does not have to report deaths for any reason and many bury just bury family members in the back yard. Yuck. The continent might be a hotbed of raging Covid19 infections and deaths but the world has no way of knowing it. The indirect evidence points to orders of magnitude more than is reported so just to be safe, although I seldom even leave my house, I'm not going to Africa anytime soon.
A Continent Where the Dead Are Not Counted
All 54 African countries put together have registered fewer Covid deaths than France. That doesn’t mean people aren’t dying from the virus.

I just started a new data analytics job and am wondering what to use as a title. 'Smarty Pants' never occurred to me until I read this article. I added it to the list but at the bottom.
So can't some smarty-pants on here connect to obituary data through api and bounce that off voter database to find all the dead people that voted?

I've taught basic statistics for almost two decades and seldom had trouble getting people to 'get it'. A major reason not mentioned in the article is that I think many statistics teachers don't have the skills to teach it well. The only ones I could not reach were the students who came into a class with a poor understanding of basic math to start with. If you think the Pythagorean Theorem is a song, you won't do well at statistics! Actually I made it into a hip hop/rap song..here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGJ8XKb07T8
