Richmond, VA field trip idea:
Recently I had the opportunity to visit the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in the Richmond, VA area. They have recently opened the butterfly garden. This is a Blue Morpho butterfly, probably a female, possibly laying eggs. The second picture (not mine) shows the beautiful blue appearance of the wings, which can be up to 8 inches across, when they are opened. Fun fact: the wings are not actually blue, but due to light refraction off of tiny scales, they appear blue to the human eye. What a beautiful expression of the limitless creativity of the Creator God! I'm thinking this would make a wonderful science field trip for those living near or visiting the Richmond area this summer. (There are lots of interesting facts about the Blue Morpho butterfly which can be found online!) For more information about the garden, https://www.facebook.com/LewisGinter/

I have not personally watched all of these and therefore cannot unreservedly recommend them, but I share this to give you some ideas of options you might consider watching and/or showing to your children. (It's always the parent's job to be the parent, which includes deciding what is and is not appropriate, God-honoring viewing material for your family.)

It's the time of year when many are administering standardized tests and reviewing scores. A couple of the more commonly used standardized tests are the Iowa Assessment and the Stanford 10, both of which are available through the BJU Press testing service. There are many misconceptions about what standardized test scores mean and how they should be interpreted. This link will take you to a document that will help you better understand what your standardized test scores are actually telling you and how they can help to guide you in making choices for your child's education.https://www.bjupresshomeschool.com/pdfs/homeschool/standardized-test-prep-guide-for-math.pdf

It is important for us as parents to guard and teach the hearts, eyes, ears, and minds of our children. The "junk" of the godless world is everywhere, and it's up to parents to help their children learn to rightly navigate the realities of the culture we live in. Make sure your curriculum is on your side, providing academic rigor from a biblical worldview. BJU Press homeschool curriculum can help with that!
What your children learn—and how it’s presented—matters.
With BJU Press Homeschool, you can trust that every book, video lesson, and illustration is carefully reviewed with biblical values and family standards in mind.
Content is thoughtfully designed to be age-appropriate, uplifting, and aligned with what matters most to your family.
Because homeschooling is more beautiful when you can teach with confidence and peace of mind.
