You may have heard of the popular APM Reports podcast, "Sold a Story," hosted by senior correspondent Emily Hanford. Through storytelling and investigation, they describe how we got to today's methods of reading instruction.
Often, the podcast can be an introduction to the challenges in implementing evidence-based reading instruction, and the work being done to share what works.
Well, there's been an update! APM Reports have partnered with educator and Right to Read Project co-founder Margaret Goldberg to create a discussion guide for the "Sold a Story" podcast. If your school, district, or organization would like to organize a listening party or professional development session based on the podcast, we encourage you to use this resource for facilitating meaningful conversations and, potentially, new processes.
Here's the guide, and happy listening! https://features.apmreports.org/sold-a-story/discussion-guide/

Now is the time to expand what works and ensure every Georgia student has access to strong literacy support.

If planes fell out of the sky at the rate students reach secondary school unable to read, it would be front page news.
made that comparison in 2018 and it is still true today.
Low secondary reading rates are not normal.
They are not inevitable.
They are a systems failure.
Literacy is infrastructure.
And communities should treat this like the crisis it is.
We would never accept collapsing bridges.
We should not accept failing readers.
