💜💛 TEAM TUESDAY | MEET OUR FIRST GRADE TEAM 💛💜

This week in first graders, our vikings are busy counting on from a known part to find the total in math, retelling and making inferences in reading, generating ideas as writers, building their phonics skills, and learning about Benjamin Franklin in Social Studies. And woven throughout it all? Leadership! 💡

Students explored what a paradigm is and how the 7 Habits can help them make choices and lead themselves each and every day. These foundational skills may begin in a first-grade classroom, but they are helping build the thinkers, problem-solvers, communicators, and leaders who will shape our future.

We are so excited to celebrate Mrs. Katie Keith as our 2026–2027 Teacher of the Year! 🏆✨

Mrs. Keith leads with heart, believes deeply in the potential of every child, and creates a classroom where students feel supported, challenged, and celebrated. Whether she is helping students set goals, work through roadblocks, or celebrate wins big and small, she makes learning meaningful, engaging, and fun while always keeping the whole child at the heart of her work.

Mrs. Keith believes in the paradigm “Change Starts With Me,” and she models it every day. She takes initiative, leads by example, and continually looks for ways to make a positive difference for her students, her team, and our entire school community. She is a teacher, mentor, encourager, and leader who pours her whole heart into what she does.

We could not be more proud to have Mrs. Katie Keith represent Vickery Creek Elementary as our 2026–2027 Teacher of the Year! 🎉💐💜

Happy Fri-YAY! 🎉 Congratulations to Mrs. Gill, who received a $4,818 Forsyth County Education Foundation Grant for Next Gen Creators: Bridging the Digital and Physical Worlds! This grant will bring exciting new coding, robotics, and 3D design opportunities to our Vikings. We cannot wait to see what they create! 💜💛

Foundation Grants are made possible through the annual Duck Dive for Education.

Registration for Morning “Precess” is now open! 🎉

Precess is an optional, supervised playtime before the school day begins. Starting the morning with free play can support students’ cognitive, social, and emotional development while improving focus, creativity, and readiness for learning.

📅 Mark your Calendar: Precess begins the week of September 14th!

• Kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 4th grade: Mondays and Wednesdays
• 1st grade, 3rd grade, and 5th grade: Tuesdays and Thursdays

Registration closes September 4 at 3:00 PM. Don’t miss the deadline!

VCE Curriculum Night - Wednesday, August 26th
Join us this evening to learn more about your child's curriculum and discover helpful resources for families.

🕓Schedule
Session 1:
5:00-5:30 PM

🕓PTO Meeting:
5:30-5:45 PM - Brief meeting in the Cafe

🕓Session 2:
5:45-6:15 PM

🕓Exploration Stations:
5:45-6:45 PM - Drop in anytime

*Note: The 2 different session times are for the convenience of families with students in different grade levels.

💡How it works
Start in your child's classroom for a presentation about curriculum, classroom routines, etc.

After the presentation, feel free to visit the various Exploration Stations:
ELA Family Resources: Mrs. Naile's Classroom (309)
Math/Science Family Resources: Art Room (302)
MTSS Info: Conference Room (301)
Pathways: Multipurpose Room
PTO, Parent Lighthouse Team, LSC: Cafeteria
Safety: Media Center

Collect signatures/initials at each station to complete your passport and claim a prize at the table in the front lobby.

Tips
If two parents/guardians attend, consider splitting up by grade level to make the most of your time.

Exploration Stations are designed just for parents and include hands-on ideas, demonstrations, and strategies to support your child at home.

Please note: Space in classrooms will be very limited, so we kindly ask that ONLY PARENTS attend Curriculum Night.

💜 TEAM TUESDAY: MEET OUR KINDERGARTEN TEAM💛

In Kindergarten, the first few weeks are all about building the foundation for a successful year. Our Kindergarten team is intentionally teaching and practicing classroom routines, creating classroom mission statements, and helping our newest Vikings learn what it means to live out our schoolwide expectations each day.

At VCE, that starts with our 3 R’s:

✨ Respectful
✨ Ready to Lead

Because leadership doesn’t begin when our students get older, it begins the moment they walk through our doors. Our Kindergarten team is helping our littlest Vikings discover their voice, take ownership, and begin building their VCE legacy!

Our littlest Vikings have been learning, laughing, and filling our halls with every color of the rainbow! We’ve loved seeing our students (and VCE staff!) join in the fun each day. ✨
