๐ We're hiring! I'm recruiting a PhD researcher for our project at the University of Bonn, within the newly funded DFG Collaborative Research Center FoodDiverse (CRC 1780).
Project B05 โ Multi-Scale Cross-Level Effects of Food System Diversification
The core question: How does diversification in the food system affect the relationship between resilience, efficiency, and sustainability across multiple levels and scales of decision-making?
We develop a mathematical modeling framework combining portfolio theory, distributional reinforcement learning, and social-ecological action situation frameworks to identify policy leverage points in food systems โ from fields to markets to diets.
๐ Based at ZEF, University of Bonn | Co-supervised by Prof. Kwabena Doku-Amponsah (University of Ghana) ๐๏ธ 3-year position (TV-L 13, 65%) | Start: as soon as possible ๐
Application deadline: 14 June 2026
Ideal candidates have a strong quantitative background (e.g., complex systems, applied mathematics, computational modeling, statistical physics, or related fields) and an interest in food systems and sustainability science.
FoodDiverse as a whole is recruiting 24 PhD and 8 postdoc researchers across 21 projects spanning agronomy, economics, sociology, nutrition, and ecology.
