The Northern Pygmy-Owl is roughly the size of a golf ball with wings. It weighs less than a AA battery. And yet, it routinely takes down prey twice its own size — songbirds, small mammals, even other raptors — with a grip strength and ferocity that has absolutely no business existing in something this small. Those fake "eyes" on the back of its head? A predator adaptation to make enemies think it's always watching. Because in a way, it always is.
