I am unapologetically a Nurse Educator. Not bc I wasn’t a good bedside nurse (I still practice), not bc I got too old, and not because I wasn’t good enough for other avenues that nursing has to offer.

I am a Nurse Educator bc I’m freaking good at it and I love it! Put me in a classroom and watch me SOAR!! Give me an idea for a course or a program and watch me CREATE!!

Let’s normalize nurses pursuing all types of advanced degrees👩🏽‍🎓! If we can’t get more nurses to enter this side of the profession we are going to be in big trouble!!

At some point in our lives we have all wanted acceptance from someone. Learning how to not get caught up on the mean girl comments from students can be hard for new educators. Especially when you came in the classroom giving it your ALL! 🥊

You want to quit, and you’re saying “I don’t have time for this. I can go back to bedside and make twice as much!”💁🏾‍♀️

I know exactly how you feel. But guess what?! 📢They need you, our profession needs you, and if you weren’t qualified you would not have been hired!

So keep being the best Nurse Educator you can be! Keep showing up and keep perfecting your gift of teaching. And if you stay in the game long enough you will be filled with random moments of kindness and thankfulness from students and graduates! 💫🌟✨🎊🥳

I can remember undergraduate nursing school like it was yesterday. I was a mommy, a LPN, an Naval Corpsman, a daughter, and the list went on. Some days I was just trying to survive. I could barley keep my eyes open on Mondays because I had just worked 32 hours in two days😫. But I survived! 💪🏾

I’m grateful that my HBCU had nursing faculty who held me accountable but also understood that if I could just finish nursing school my entire life would change. 💛💚

As a Dean of Nursing I recognize a lot of nursing students aren’t afforded this same type of opportunity!

I’m encouraging all Nursing Faculty to NEVER FORGET and the same grace you needed is the same grace that one of your students might need in order for their life and their children’s lives to be forever changed! Tomorrow give a little grace😉
