Did you teach RI.5 today?
I taught my students how to annotate for information on a compare and contrast nonfiction text. The purpose of annotating is to give students control over finding information about a text before they are required to answer questions about it. When students annotate, they can decide what information is important instead of me just telling them. It also helps with their independent comprehension.
Here I showed my students how to locate the key words that signaled the similarities and differences of Kangaroos and Koalas. The next step is to show them how to organize all that information to use for later (answering questions or writing about what they read).
⁉️What is your favorite text structure to teach? Tell us about it below.

📖Did you know that when students come back to school in August, their reading levels will be tested? Do you know what your child’s reading level is and if your child is reading on grade level?
📖Are you worried that your child has lost some reading skills during virtual learning?
📖Do you want to get your child more excited about reading and being college and career ready but you don’t know where to begin?
📖Would you like to talk to educators about how to motivate your child to read more?
We’ll look no further! Read.Believe.Succeed Inc. wants you to talk to us about your child’s reading needs so we can help. Research tells us that if a student isn’t reading on grade level by the 3rd grade, they will never catch up and most likely drop out of school. RBS Inc. is dedicated to changing this narrative so please come out and join us ❤️ We can’t wait to see you there Atlanta parents!
