Emory Anesthesiology

We love to give back! Yesterday, the TELP (Grady Teen Leadership Program) hosted a workshop for high school students called “The Ultimate OR Experience.” Students were able to practice suturing, intubating, placing IVs, and epidural placements. Additionally, students had the opportunity to interact with leadership, residents, and attendings to discuss the path to a career in medicine. The excitement from the students was palpable, and we can wait to see them back next year!

Our new interns have arrived! We are excited to get to know them and watch them become Anesthesiologist! Shout out to Dr. Austin DeBeaux, our Internship Director, for facilitating all the details with our Program Coordinator, Chanta Randall. Huge welcome to our new interns!

It has been an excellent month for Dr. Nadine Naguib, one of our CA3s. She was awarded a Global Health Scholar by our School of Medicine and has spent the month of May executing a project she developed in Ethiopia. Her project involved Airway Management and ICU basics for first year residents. Well done, Dr. Naguib!

What a wonderful day! Yesterday we held our 2nd annual Anesthesia Family Day. It was well attended with nearly 150 people present. We had multiple generations present and one of our CA1s Dr Tawanna Charlton had 4 generations with her family! This was an opportunity for our families to see what we do day to day. As families checked in, they could create their own staff badge with pictures and all! We had airway stations, TEE, POCUS, US, IV and IV medication admin as well as a pediatric monitors station and “ detangle the cords station. Our coloring room with videos created by residents, faculty and anesthetists was a huge hit. A deep thank you for all of our faculty who volunteered time to man stations. A HUGE shout out to Dr, Michelle Romej our fearless leader who organized the event. Thank you Dr. Romej! More pics in a 2nd post. Hope to see you all next year!

Recently at the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA) we had an excellent representation from our residents!
We had chiefs, ( Dabin Ji who is doing a fellowship at Stanford), two of our CA2s ( Pavani Vantipalli and Brandon Hou) applying for pediatric fellowships, one of our interns ( Rachel Nyenhuis) and even one of our incoming interns (Samira Issa Boube). What a great group!
