Today was the 2024 G*E Day at the Capitol. We had a great amount of Aspiring Educators that came out to speak with their Senators and Representatives about the struggle of their Unpaid Student Teaching. We lobbied on House Bill 148 that would provide student teachers in Georgia with $7,500 during their Pre-Service Teaching Engagement. We were able to speak with the maker of the House bill and we got to speak to Senator Halpern who will be introducing this in the senate. We are making strides in Georgia towards an accessible and equitable teaching workforce that will ensure that students have access to competent, effective, and diverse educators!

šØAttention educators attending the NEA Leadership Summit in ChicagošØ
I will be presenting a session entitled āBest Practices to Engage Students from MSIs in Our Unionā. Registration for the conference is now live and Iād love to see you in my session!
Session Description: Minority serving institutions (MSIs) are vital for professional development in the US, educating 30 percent of undergraduates. MSIs were created to provide access to marginalized groups that were excluded from predominately White institutions (PWIs). MSI students are underrepresented within the NEA and state affiliate chapters are less common on MSI campuses. We must lead the change and create a different outcome. This session explores MSI impact and strategies to engage MSI students in the union.
