At the #UNGA80 side event “Erased But Not Forgotten,” our Cofounder and CEO, Maryam Faiq Gardiwal, delivered a powerful message calling for justice, accountability, and education as tools of empowerment for Afghan women and girls facing gender apartheid. We are proud to have joined side event “Erased But Not Forgotten: Voices for Justice and Accountability in Afghanistan,” our Cofounder and CEO, Maryam Faiq Gardiwal, raised her voice for the Afghan people, especially women and girls who are being systematically erased from public life under the de facto government of Afghanistan.

She spoke about how Afghan women have been stripped of education, work, mobility, and basic freedoms, a reality amounting to gender apartheid. She also emphasized that disasters such as the recent earthquake in eastern Afghanistan only deepen this repression, reminding the world that climate and environmental crises are never gender-neutral.

Maryam called for global recognition of this injustice, accountability, justice for victims, and stronger support for women-led solutions that can keep hope alive.

We thank Permanent Mission of Afghanistan to the United Nations and Human Rights Defenders Plus (HRD+) for organizing this event and allow us to proudly co-sponsor this event alongside respected organizations such as Amnesty International and others dedicated to human rights and equality.
