"Follow your dreams," they say! (Fine print: So long as your dreams seem 100% logical, almost 0% risky, and have a 100% fool-proof path to achievement).

In the Western world, we are groomed to prioritize logic. We're so well groomed towards this that many of us cannot even "dream big" because even our dreams have been limited by logic and reality - which is *wild* because there is literally *zero* risk to dreaming.

Am I advocating to throw logic out the window when determining your path? No. Am I advocating to temporarily suspend it while you think up the most ideal life, scenario, job, and situation for yourself instead of starting from a space of insane limitation? Yes.

If you're aligned well enough with your dream, you'll find a way to be strategically unreasonable about achieving it. If you're limited by logic in dreaming to begin with, your passion for getting there is likely to be limited as well.

Let's talk personality tests. It's a love/hate relationship for me.

Most personality tests wouldn't state that their goal is to assign everyone to a "box" to live within, but all too often, that's what I see happen. We're given results and then told how to flex to "offset" ourselves where needed… Action orientation towards this, alone, is insanely limiting as far as seeking serenity, fulfillment, and happiness go. (How audacious of you to prioritize those things for yourself! 😉)

"But, Nicole, you're certified in multiple personal assessments. What gives?"

Personality tests aren't inherently bad. The idea that personality is permanent and something to be managed cautiously is.

In any situation, we have 3 choices:
1 - Change ourselves to align to the situation (almost always how personality tests are used)
2 - Change the situation to align to us
3 - Find a whole new situation that's in beautiful alignment with us to begin with

Let's get strategically unreasonable. Let's use this same information to explore options 2 and 3 instead of just option 1.

Think back to the time, event, or experience where you experienced the most growth. What was it? What thoughts and feelings did you experience heading into it?

Chances are it wasn't something you had on lock, completely, 100% figured out heading into it. You likely had a mix of thoughts and feelings going in - excitement, angst, exhilaration, uncertainty…

In the adult development world, we call these "high heat" experiences - where you're feeling on the spot, experiencing some pressure, and being stretched in new ways - all while being highly invested in quality outcomes.

Growth almost always requires discomfort. Recognize it, name it, accept it, and understand its purpose - and even though the discomfort may not subside, you'll like be more comfortable with its presence.

When was the last time you turned up the heat?

Have you ever been told to go with with the flow? Are you for or against this advice?

Society teaches us not to "rock the boat" and to avoid "making waves." The truth is that when we're in alignment with our experiences and surroundings, we don't often have the urge to rock the boat; thus, ignoring it when it does arise tends to keep us small, misaligned, and unfulfilled.

So, should you "go with the flow?" Yes, if the flow is in alignment for you. If it's not - rock the boat, make the waves you want to ride, and *then* go with the flow. ;)
