Publishing a book feels a little like standing in front of the world with your journal open.
This is my first book, and while I’ve spoken in front of thousands of people and spent years sharing ideas publicly, this felt different. Many of the stories in these pages are deeply personal. Stories about school, belonging, insecurity, creativity, failure, identity, and the moments that shaped me into the person I am today. There were chapters I rewrote over and over because I kept wondering, “Is this too honest?”
The funny thing about creating something personal is that once it leaves your hands, you can’t control how people receive it. Experienced authors advised me to avoid the reviews/comments, but curiosity usually gets me in the end. Today I read one of the very first comments from a reader, and I can’t fully explain what it felt like to see someone connect with these words that lived in my head and heart for so long. To know that a story I almost kept to myself might actually matter to someone else. That’s a surreal feeling for which I am deeply grateful.
Books are strange that way. You spend months or years writing alone, wondering if anyone will understand what you’re trying to say. Then suddenly, someone you’ve never met sees themselves somewhere in your story, and for a moment, you realize maybe vulnerability was worth it after all.
More than anything, I hope this book reaches the people who need it most.
The students who feel out of place.
The parents trying their best to understand their children.
The teachers who see potential in kids long before the world does.
The adults still carrying the quiet feeling that they never quite fit the mold they were handed. I hope it reminds people that belonging isn’t about becoming more like everyone else. Sometimes it’s about finally becoming more like yourself.
To everyone who has supported this book already, thank you. Every message, every share, every comment, every person who took the time to read even a few pages means more than you probably realize. And to the reader who left this comment, thank you ☺️

Hey y’all. A dear friend and colleague was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and she made an wishlist for all the things she wants and needs throughout her treatment journey. If you’re able, please help brighten her day. If you’re not able, feel free to comment, share, or boost this post. This woman helped me grieve the loss of my parents, taught my kids, and helps me navigate the nuances of teaching when it’s hard. She’s the teacher you want bc the kids adore her. She’s fun, kind, generous, and she deserves all the love as support as she kicks cancer’s butt. Fun fact: she’s a HUGE Backstreet Boys fan 💃🏽 💕 https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/EOFUD3QGX9RA?ref_=wl_share
