Athens City Schools Athens City Schools is a K-12 public school district serving Athens, Alabama since 1909. Every elementary school in Athens City is a theme-based academy.

Founded in 1909 and located in idyllic Athens, Alabama, the Athens City School district has a long history of high academic standards, competitive athletic teams, superior faculty and staff and widespread community support. The district is comprised of four elementary schools (PreK through 3rd Grade), one intermediate school (grades 4-5), a middle school (grades 6-8) and one high school (grades 9-12) Additionally, we have a non-traditional online and blended K-12 school. A theme-based academy is a school that emphasizes and builds its academic program around a specific discipline. The Athens Academies are designed to enhance the traditional curriculum through experiential learning delivered through a theme focus to enrich the learning experience. The Athens Academies nurture the seeds of talent and curiosities that exist within a child naturally while still providing a first-rate education in traditional subject areas. Each academy adheres to a common set of fundamentals. Because Athens City Schools understands the needs of today's learners, we also offer Athens Renaissance School. Athens Renaissance is a K-12 online and blended educational option for non-traditional students. ARS offers a fully comprehensive curriculum that can be personalized to meet the needs of each individual student. A dedicated staff is available for support. ARS is a fully staffed school with strong leadership supported by certified teachers and counselors. If individualized learning is of interest to you, Athens Renaissance may be a great fit. Learn more about ARS at www.acs-k12.org/ars. At every Athens City School, we work diligently to honor our mission to be a progressive, high-quality school system that connects students and their families to a caring, traditional community. We truly are a community connected by education. We invite you to learn more about any of our schools below:

FOOD & FUN HANDS-ON LEARNING Second graders from Julian Newman Elementary School enjoyed a field trip to Texas Roadhouse today that included a behind-the-scenes look at restaurant operations. Students have been exploring different types of bread, their origins, and how ingredients are grown and produced. This visit complemented their classroom learning about gardening and farm-to-table connections while also introducing them to careers in food and hospitality. Our rotated through interactive stations led by Texas Roadhouse team members, including a restaurant tour, bread science experiment, drink tray relay race, scavenger hunt, rock decorating, and more. Students even got a chance to meet Andy Armadillo and do a little line dancing. What a fun opportunity to make real-world connections among science, food preparation, teamwork, customer service, hospitality, and business operations. Special thanks to the Texas Roadhouse team for creating this fun experience! Yeehaw! ๐Ÿค
