I also wrote about this on the blog and shared my coming out story.
People in the LGBTQ+ Community are more likely to experience depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts and so much of that stems from trauma around their orientation/identity. There's isolation, bullying, shaming, and so much more. Pride month is about honoring those who have paved the way for us, like the Stonewall Riots, and it's also about celebrating our community as a whole and coming together to love and accept each other.

Hi everyone! My name is Heather (she/her/hers) and I am the newly appointed Communications Director for SEORA. I take care of most of the social media content and help with outreach. I am excited to work my first PrideFest with you all. I have been an Athens local my whole life, and hope I never have to leave! I recently graduated with my Masters in Law, Justice & Culture, a Bachelors in Education, and minor in Spanish. I work at the Athens Public Library and it is the best job I have ever had! My hobbies include reading (I have a goal of 50 books this year, I’m at 18), video games (yes, I love Animal Crossing), and trying new crafts. You can probably find me uptown at Donkey, Tony’s, Overhang, or Lucky’s. I’m passionate about advocacy, politics, diversity & inclusion, and equity.
My goals for SEORA are to continue building relationships with local businesses and responding to every message on our social media. I also hope to increase engagement with our pages and spread the word even further about our missions and goals. Ultimately, having a safe, physical, permanent place for SEORA and its members is our main goal. Thank you for reading all this!
