Does where you live determine your radon risk? 🗺️

Radon levels can be influenced by factors like geology, uranium in the soil and rock, soil characteristics, and how radon enters a home. While maps can show patterns across Georgia, they can’t predict the radon level in your individual home.

Did you know there could be a cancer-causing invisible gas in your home? Join UGA Radon and Hall County UGA Extension Hall County on September 21 to learn more about radon. This free class will discuss radon, its health effects, where radon is found, and how to test and fix a radon problem.

In August, 79 radon test kits were submitted, and 12 homes had elevated radon levels. 1 in 6 homes had high radon levels this month.

Radon was found at elevated levels in 9 Georgia counties, with the highest result reaching 14.9 pCi/L in Walton County, more than three times the EPA Action Level.

Check out July's Radon Test Results! 🌞

Even during the summer months, when homes are often more ventilated, radon continues to be found in homes across Georgia.

🏠 82 radon test kits were submitted for analysis.
⚠️ 13 homes had elevated radon levels.
📍 9 counties reported elevated results.
📈 Nearly 1 in 6 homes (18.06%) tested above the EPA Action Level.
🔴 The highest result was 7.5 pCi/L in Fayette and Gwinnett Counties. This is nearly twice the EPA Action Level.

Because windows and doors are often open during the summer, indoor radon levels can be lower than they are in the winter. If a home has elevated radon levels during the summer, those levels may be even higher during colder months when homes are more tightly sealed.

The good news? Radon can be tested year-round. The only way to know your home's radon level is to test.
