The University of Georgia Alumni Association was founded in 1834 as the Alumni Society and was the fourth organization of former students to be created by any institution of higher learning in America and the first Alumni Society in the South. The name was changed to The UGA National Alumni Association in 1996. The Board of Directors serves in an advisory capacity to the Association's Executive Committee. These governing bodies are made up of 55 alumni working to promote, support and advance the programs and services provided by the Alumni Association to the UGA community. UGA will name the Performing Arts Center after former UGA President Charles Knapp and his wife, Lynne Knapp, in recognition of a significant gift from the Knapps to support the future of music and the performing arts at the university. The USG Board of Regents approved the naming request Oct. 7 during their meeting on UGA's campus.

“Over the past 30 years, this building has become a centerpiece of our campus, bringing the world’s greatest performing artists to Athens and fostering creativity and community at our university,” Charles Knapp said. “To help maintain this progress, Lynne and I have made the performing arts a focus of our giving to the university. It is our pleasure to provide this support.”

Once Stephen Weizenecker and Dr. Evis Babo set foot on campus, they quickly fell in love with the captivating opportunities and welcoming people.

As Atlanta residents, their first introduction to the school was when the couple’s eldest daughter, Eve ’29, chose to attend UGA. Looking for ways to support her experience, they found the Parents Leadership Council and a community of parents passionate about giving back. Through the PLC, they have built meaningful relationships and found a rewarding way to support the students and people who make UGA special.
