I marvel at this tree every time I walk past it on my hikes.

Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place. I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist.

Seriously, nature is amazing in what it can do with the given conditions.

Life can certainly be difficult at times, but like this tree, we can figure out a way to persevere.

Our talent and enthusiasm will only get us so far.

Having discipline, doing the thing even when we don't feel like doing it, is what makes the difference.

When you start something new it can feel scary or even awkward.

If you’re like me, you want to be good at whatever you’re doing right at the start.

That’s not how it works.

Be willing to be bad at first and take the first steps.

The sunk cost fallacy is our tendency to continue with an endeavor we’ve invested money, effort, or time into—even if the current costs outweigh the benefits. This is a common decision-making pitfall in both life and business. The more we invest, the more committed we are—and the more resources we funnel into that initial decision.

Examples might include:
Staying in a romantic relationship even though your values
are misaligned
Finishing a book or movie you dislike just because you’ve
started it
Remaining in an unfulfilling job or on a career track that’s no
longer serving you

Just being aware of the sunk cost fallacy is a great first step. Also consider how the situation is affecting your mental health, is it taking a negative toll. If you’re feeling less and less sure about the situation, this is an indicator that you may need to make a change. Embrace the ability to make new choices and that past decisions don’t have to dictate your future.

It is not selfish to prioritize what you need. Show the same kindness to yourself that you have for others. It can be hard to put on your oxygen mask first and watch others struggle to breathe. It is necessary for you to do this so you can be at your best for yourself and the ones you love.

Is it worth it?

We get upset over situations, things people say and do.

When you think about it, in 6 months or a year from now, will it matter?

Most often the answer is no.

Do you want to feel that anger, frustration, overwhelm, or whatever it is?

Complaining, talking negatively about others, and not changing anything keep your mind and body stuck in a negative loop of stress.

Stop looking for people, conditions, and events outside of you to change.

Instead, get curious about why you react the way you do.

Are you feeling resentful? Perhaps a boundary needs to be put in place.

Are you angry? Maybe you aren’t asking for what you need.

Are you overwhelmed? It could be you’re taking on too much, not willing to say no.

It can feel like we have no control over how we react, but if we can turn inward and start to pay attention, we can get clues.

Start asking yourself questions about what you needed in those moments.

You can’t change others.

If you want to feel better, it starts with you.

I’d like your feedback. What situations challenge you in keeping your cool? Where do you struggle the most?

Is it hard for you to relax?

My friends, you need to stop, notice what’s happening in your body.

There are plenty of messages, signals that your body is giving you.

Perhaps that’s precisely what you’re running from.

I want you to know that at your core, you’re not broken.

You can learn to be still, to be with those parts of you that need your attention.

It makes sense that you don’t know what to do with what is showing up, no one ever taught you.

It’s time to learn, how to relax, to let go, and to find who you are at your core.

This may seem impossible, but I’m living proof that it is possible.
