Our founder Lora Smothers has been chosen for the inaugural class of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights Truth and Transformation Fellowship! She will be using the grant funds awarded to develop a curriculum centering Athens’ Black history. Grateful for this opportunity to bring local Black history education to all of our local schools! ☀️✊🏿

The Joy Village School is Athens’ only private school centering Black Joy and thriving. Being separate from the public system means that even as the government tries to outlaw programming designed to support marginalized groups, we can carry on learning our history and doing our thing without interruption. ☀️✊🏿

This past Wednesday IGNITE got to participate in Hilsman Middle School’s Career Fair for 6th grade. It was wonderful to be able to show and tell them about all the options they have as they grow older!!
