Ashville Varsity Bulldogs Earn Walk-Off Win Over St. Clair County Varsity Saints

Ashville Varsity Bulldogs took Saturday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 12-11 walk-off victory over St. Clair County Varsity Saints at Ashville High School. Ashville Varsity Bulldogs were down 11-9 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Easton Layfield tripled, scoring three runs.

Ashville Varsity Bulldogs collected 11 hits and St. Clair County Varsity Saints had 10 in the high-scoring affair.

A ground out by Garrett Coker put St. Clair County Varsity Saints on the board in the top of the first.

St. Clair County Varsity Saints scored six runs on two hits in the top of the sixth inning. Hayden Black scored after tagging up, Nicholas Bosque singled, scoring one run, Coker doubled, scoring two runs, and an error scored two runs.

Ashville Varsity Bulldogs flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the seventh, scoring eight runs on five hits to take the lead, 12-11. The biggest blow in the inning was a triple by Layfield that drove in three.

Charley Hyde earned the win for Ashville Varsity Bulldogs. The hurler surrendered three hits and five runs (two earned) over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Nathan Nichols started on the hill for Ashville Varsity Bulldogs. The pitcher allowed seven hits and six runs over five innings, striking out five and walking five. Cole Lowry started on the mound for St. Clair County Varsity Saints. The starter allowed nine hits and nine runs (two earned) over six and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking three.

Ashville Varsity Bulldogs tallied 11 hits in the game. Camden Mclemore and Hunter Bowlin each collected three hits for Ashville Varsity Bulldogs. Layfield went 1-for-5 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Dylan Palmer collected two hits for Ashville Varsity Bulldogs in three at bats. Ashville Varsity Bulldogs turned two double plays in the game.

St. Clair County Varsity Saints accumulated 10 hits in the game. Coker provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led St. Clair County Varsity Saints with three runs batted in. The number three hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Bosque led St. Clair County Varsity Saints with three hits in three at bats. Black paced St. Clair County Varsity Saints with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. St. Clair County Varsity Saints stole four bases in the game. St. Clair County Varsity Saints turned three double plays in the game.
