Regarding concerns of the community regarding potential health and safety impacts related to releases from our local chemical manufacturing companies, I wanted to provide some resources that could be helpful. After speaking with a representative from the Ohio EPA, it was explained that there were two resources available if citizens have concerns. The first is Ohio EPAβs Non-Emergency Compliant Portal which can be found at: https://epa.ohio.gov/help.../contact-us/submit-a-complaint
The Complaint Portal offers a streamlined approach to submit non-emergency environmental complaints or concerns. I was told there have not been any recent complaints from our area. The second is the Ohio EPA Emergency Spill Hotline which can be reached by dialing 1-800-282-9378. Environmental emergencies are different than complaints because they are time critical releases that cause an immediate or significant threat to public health, safety or the environment.
They will follow up and investigate any complaint that comes to the agency.
If you have a concern, this is the best step to address it as they would be the proper regulatory entity that would oversee such facilities. They are not going to see a post on FB and be aware of a concern to potentially investigate if not reported.
