I have been running from pain rather than embracing it and allowing it to help me grow and heal. That was the reason I began taking antidepressants five years ago. I was dealing with my son’s addiction, (and several other family dynamic issues that did not include him). I was especially trying to understand what took him in that direction. The question every LOVED ONE (parent) asks themselves, “was this my fault” (the answer to that question, was NO). I was also suffering from the emotion pain and how HIS addiction was affecting MY life emotionally on a hundred levels including disappointment. It was incredible what I’ve learned the last five years. This journey into self-realization happens, when you do the work. You learn it’s not about the loved one because you can’t heal them. However, you can work on healing YOURSELF. Mary Beth will be leading the group this evening, 4/22/19, 6:30p.m. at the Neighborhood on Carter Avenue, Ashland. I urge each person dealing with a “Loved One”, start the journey of healing by taking your eyes off of your LOVED ONE and onto what you need to do to change your mind set about this difficult, emotional issue.
