For Martin Luther King Jr. Day Kailee Skidmore and I created this video! The audio is “Nobody Knows the Trouble Ive Seen" and “Lift Every Voice And Sing”. “Nobody knows the Trouble I’ve Seen” is an African-American slave song that originated during the period of slavery but was not published until 1867. And "Lift Every Voice and Sing" was publicly performed first as a poem as part of a celebration of Abraham Lincoln's birthday. In 1919, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) dubbed it "the Negro national anthem" for its power in voicing a cry for liberation and affirmation for African-American people. This version is performed by the ACDA 2010 Capital University Chapel Choir.

Tonight is Lights On Afterschool! I’m so upset to not be able to share this with our students. Tonight isn’t just one lesson but a resource to use multiple times throughout your life. This year has been stressful and can affect kids just as it does adults.

Mindfulness is described by the Mayo Clinic as “a type of meditation in which you focus on being intensely aware of what you're sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgment. Practicing mindfulness involves breathing methods, guided imagery, and other practices to relax the body and mind and help reduce stress.”

This is not led by any religion but by phycology and science. It has been proven to help in problems such as Stress, Anxiety, Pain, Depression, Insomnia, and High blood pressure (hypertension).

This is a below is a multi-step free resource. This includes readings, videos, and guided meditations for student and parents to do together or separate.

I find it important that, though students grade are important, it shadows in the importance of mental health. And in this climate I feel it is pertinent that we openly talk to all students about mental and emotional health.

This online MBSR training course is 100% free, created by a fully certified MBSR instructor, and is based on the program founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Happy first week of virtual school! As we get closer to the weekend please fill out this Google Document for your students to get tutoring! I can say from experience the first week is the easiest but when week two and three comes around it can get hard to keep up! Let me help!! Also feel free to share to other parents and friends with students that go to BCMS! This will also give us a great list for when we start super fun virtual activities!

In support of 9/11, National Day of Service allows us to give back to those who risk their lives every day for our safety and freedom. I made an informative video for you to share with your students and children. As well as an activity that I would love for all people to participate in! Feel free to share pictures, videos, and messages underneath this post! I want to see all the students that I have been so eager to meet for over a month!!!!

Hello!! My name is Dominique Sears and I’m your new ACES member!! I’m so excited to start this new, and ever- changing year with you all! I am graduate of Marshall University. I am a lover of all things music and learning, which combined into my degree of music education. I am also making steps toward a masters degree in Special Education! After graduating I moved to Kentucky and fell in love with this area! When I found an opening to work here at Boyd County Middle school, through AmeriCorp, I jumped at the chance. I’m so excited to start this year!

I am also going to take this time to remind you all that tomorrow, 9/11, is national day of service day! I will be posting a fun bit of information and a wonderful activity that I have put together to support some of the local hero’s!
