March was an exciting and engaging month for our 4th and 5th grade AIG students at New Market and Liberty Elementary! We wrapped up with our highly anticipated 24 Game March Math Madness Tournaments 🏀➕➗
Students competed in fast-paced 3-minute rounds, challenging themselves to solve as many cards as possible. Using all four numbers on each card, they applied addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to reach a total of 24.
The growth from the beginning until tournament day was incredible. Not only did students strengthen their math skills, but their confidence, perseverance, and excitement soared. The energy in the room was amazing—and most importantly, they had a blast learning!
Beyond just math facts, this activity helped students develop:
✨ Critical thinking and problem-solving
✨ Mental math fluency
✨ Flexible thinking and strategy-building
✨ Perseverance and productive struggle
✨ Focus and time management under pressure
✨ Confidence in tackling challenges
We are so proud of their hard work and enthusiasm!

The 4th grade math AIG students at John Lawrence Elementary are hard at work tackling a real-world fraction performance task!
Using a playhouse blueprint, they’re applying their understanding of fractions to determine how different materials cover the space. Students are calculating the square footage of each type of flooring and identifying the fraction of the total space each one represents. From carpeting to tiling to vinyl, they’re thinking critically, collaborating, and solving problems like true mathematicians.
It is amazing to see their perseverance as they bring math to life in meaningful ways!

The AIG students at Farmer Elementary are designing their own food trucks! After deciding on a menu (including prices with decimals!) they get to practice real-world math skills by ordering items, calculating the total cost, and determining how much change they should receive.
