My motto - "You can play absolutely anything on paper...just maybe not as fast as it was intended. Education - I have a Bachelor of Music in Arts. Experience - I have been teaching the guitar, bass, piano, and ukulele for over 20 years. I've taught at the Fraioli School of Music and The Nutmeg Conservatory of Music, both in Connecticut. I was also affiliated with other guitar tutoring programs in
NYC. Now I manage 100% of my work privately over Zoom. Working over Zoom - Ever since Covid, my business went 100% virtual. I used this opportunity to re-invent myself. I started creating scores digitally using Musescore. I have a subscription so I can access practically any song you can imagine. I then download and edit them to suit the student's ability or preference. I used to go door to door to the student's house and manually write out the charts. Now that I digitally create them online, I've been able to create over 3,000 charts into my personal database for future reference. The Guitar - It's been my main focus in life. I started playing at a young age and have continued passionately ever since. I am a daily player and have been teaching this wonderful instrument to aspiring musicians of all ages for over 20 years. I create lesson plans that teach the student how to master the instrument, and exercises that help strengthen their technique. For the more advanced guitar student - I teach how to break down the entire neck through chord inversions. Focusing on the bottom 4 strings, I illustrate how to voice the same chord in 3 places on the neck (Root, 1st and 2nd inversion). I then give examples on how this approach facilitates voice leading and “keeps things fresh” so you are not to resort to the same chord voicings. I also specialize in improvisation, performance, and composition. I am proficient in sight-reading notation, tablature, and chord charts. Over time, you can be too! It's not how many years you've been playing. It's how many hours you put in. The Piano - I was classically taught in college and can sightread both clefs. Using the Musescore software, I am able to customize your sheet music. I delete the octave for the small hands that can't quite reach yet. I can transpose the sheet music to your preference. Still having trouble reading both clefs? I can put the letters in temporarily to get you going. The Ukulele - The ukulele is a great instrument especially for younger children. It is essentially the bottom 4 strings of a guitar so graduating up to guitar is easy down the road. I start with simple chords and strum patterns that translate seamlessly to the guitar. Not sure if it's right for you? Message me to set up a no obligation trial lesson today! I look forward to speaking with you. Thank you,
Steve Gregoire
