35 members of our FFA chapter and ag classes joined students from West Bend-Mallard, GTRA, and North Iowa on Tuesday, October 13, for our annual Yield Judging competition held in Swea City. A total of 41 members from the other three chapters participated with us this year. The event gives participants a chance to practice estimating crop yields in the field, which is an important skill for the future ag careers. Junior Ally Bruhn summed it up well, saying, "Yield judging is always a fun and educational event!"

Thank you to Vince and Julie for inviting us back every year and making the day such a great learning opportunity.

13 of our Greenhand FFA members traveled to Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg today to attend the Greenhand Fire Up conference. There were 145 members from 11 chapters present. The interactive workshops focused on leadership with an emphasis on the experiences that occur in the lives of beginning high school students and the different opportunities they have in FFA.

🍎🍊 North Union FFA Fruit Sales are officially underway! 🍊🍎

Support NU FFA by purchasing fruit, meat, cheese, or pork snack sticks from one of our members! New this year we are excited to be working with one of our alumni, Kadin, and his business Work 'N' Walter Farms to sell delicious and local pork snack sticks. Funds raised through sales help our chapter provide opportunities for members throughout the year, including contests, conferences, trips, chapter activities, and more.

It was a big day for the Animal Science class- the chicks arrived today! They will be responsible for the next six weeks for the care and management of the 25 Cornish Rock broiler chickens. They're learning by doing, building responsibility, and developing skills to help them in their future careers and lives!

Last Thursday, September 24, our FFA members got together to pack harvest snack bags for local farmers and families. These snack bags will be dropped off in Armstrong, Fenton, Ringsted, and Swea City as a small way to show our appreciation for everyone working hard during harvest season. From all of us at North Union FFA, we wish everyone a safe, successful, and happy harvest!

Members in the Agronomy class took a trip to Iowa Lakes Community College farm to participate in a soils judging clinic. Students worked through the soils scorecard to help determine the quality of soil in preparation for their contest next week. Thank you ILCC and Palo Alto NRCS for hosting the fun and educational event!

The North Union FFA Officer team had an amazing day at FFA Day at the Clay County Fair! They started the morning by hearing National FFA Western Vice-President Jael Cruikshank speak, then spent the day exploring the fair. To wrap things up, they attended her workshop in the afternoon. Overall, it was a fun and educational day!

If you are exhibiting livestock 🐮🐷🐓🐑🐰🐏at the Kossuth County Fair, you must complete the YQCA training. Exclusions are pets and horses. Reach out to your club or chapter leaders to get your YQCA code. Once you have completed the training a copy of the certificate must be dropped off, emailed or mailed📬 to the Kossuth County Extension Office by July 1st⏳!
