We are so excited to introduce our Art Teacher at Brighter Futures Microschool! 🎨🌟

Meet Ms. Susan β€” a Texas-certified All-Level Art teacher (PK-12) with 22 years of experience and three degrees, including a Master of Fine Arts from Texas Woman's University. She has taught in Fine Art charters, Arlington, Grand Prairie, and Mansfield ISDs, Northstar School, at the college level, and in private lessons. She is also certified in Gifted and Talented education and has specialized experience in SPED Partners in Art.

But what makes Ms. Susan truly special goes beyond her credentials.

Her young adult son was diagnosed with classic level 2 autism at age 2Β½. He has borderline IDD and β€” like so many of our students β€” has extraordinary strengths in music and art. That personal experience shapes everything about how she approaches her work. She knows firsthand that with repeated exposure, patience, and the right environment, children can discover a love for art they never knew they had.

Ms. Susan believes that art is an important form of self-expression that anyone can engage in β€” at any ability level. Her goal is to meet every child where they are, connect with their individual interests and strengths, and help them grow holistically through hands-on creation.

Outside of school she creates her own art, visits art museums, reads, swims, cooks, and gardens. She shares her home with her husband David, their adult sons Alex and Ian, and their dog Molly.

We are beyond grateful to have her as part of this team. Our students are in wonderful, experienced, and deeply understanding hands.

We are thrilled to introduce another incredible member of the Brighter Futures Microschool team! 🌟

Meet Mrs. Sharyl β€” our Teacher Assistant and a true champion for neurodiverse learners. With two years of early childhood special education experience and a heart that has been working with children for over 22 years, she brings warmth, patience, and genuine care to every student she works with.

Mrs. Sharyl specializes in behavior support, social skills development, small-group instruction, and helping create an environment where every child feels safe, understood, and excited to come to school. She has a gift for connecting with students, earning their trust, and celebrating every milestone β€” no matter how small.

Outside of school she loves gardening, birdwatching, cooking, cheering on her son at college baseball games, and she recently picked up embroidery! She and her husband Neil have three grown children β€” and they are expecting their very first grandbaby in November! πŸŽ‰

She says it best herself: "Caring for children is more than a job to me β€” it is something I genuinely love."

We are so grateful to have Mrs. Sharyl in our students' corner.

We are so excited to introduce one of our Learning Support Specialists at Brighter Futures Microschool! 🌟

Meet Mrs. Wells β€” a certified EC-6 and Special Education teacher with a passion for individualized instruction, autism supports, positive behavior strategies, and social-emotional skill development. She brings two years of early childhood special education experience and a genuine belief that every child deserves to be seen, understood, and given the opportunity to succeed in a way that honors their unique strengths.

Originally from California, she made Texas her home after attending Nelson University, where she earned her Bachelor's in Elementary Education with a Minor in Special Education. She holds certifications in EC-6 Core Content, Special Education EC-12, and the Science of Teaching Reading.

Outside of school she loves reading, gardening, baking, crafts, camping, and spending time with the people she loves.

We are so lucky to have her as part of the Brighter Futures family. Our students and families are in wonderful hands.

This is our Specials Space β€” and it does a lot.
Art. Music. Social skills. Gross motor movement. All in one room that was designed to hold all of it without feeling chaotic.
For our students, "specials" is not just a break from academics. It is where they practice communicating with peers, regulating their bodies, expressing themselves creatively, and developing the gross motor skills that impact everything from handwriting to self-confidence.
The sensory swing, the movement area, the designated zones β€” none of it is by accident. Every inch of this space was set up with a specific type of learner in mind.
From an empty room to a space where real learning happens in a completely different way. We are almost there.
We open this fall. A few spots remain for the 2025–2026 school year.

If your child has ever been told they have trouble focusing or staying on task β€” look at this classroom and ask yourself if the environment might have had something to do with it.
Most classrooms are busy. Crowded walls, lots of movement, too many students, too much noise. For a child with ADHD, ASD, anxiety, or sensory differences, that environment is not just distracting β€” it is a barrier to learning before the lesson even starts.
Our Learning Lab was built to remove those barriers.
Clean walls. Intentional layout. Flexible seating so students can find the position their body actually needs. A calm down corner for the moments when regulation has to come before instruction. Small groups of 3–5 so there is never a crowd to get lost in.
This is what a classroom looks like when it is designed around the student β€” not the other way around.

We open this fall. A few spots remain for the 2025–2026 school year.
