Section 32 is one of the most important tools available right now to help school meal programs survive a real financial crisis.

These funds are tariff revenue set aside to support agriculture and child nutrition programs. It exists for exactly this kind of moment. And right now, there’s more money than usual.

School nutrition professionals are stretched thin, so SNA is calling on USDA to use funds that already exist and designated for this purpose, to help close that gap.

Someone needed to say it 🤷‍♀️

Happy Labor Day to our school nutrition community! 💜

This weekend is a celebration of work and we know just how much your work matters.
 
You’re there before the first bell rings and you’re still there long after the last tray gets cleared.
 
In between, you’re feeding hundreds of kids, remembering who has an allergy, who’s having a rough day, who just needs someone to say good morning. You’re managing a budget, a menu, a staff and a hundred small decisions nobody outside that kitchen ever sees.
 
And somehow, it still doesn’t get talked about enough.

Thank you for the work you do. It matters. Enjoy the day, you’ve earned it.

This week, at the “Harvest to Hallways” event in Washington, D.C., USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced a new initiative focused on school food infrastructure, local food sourcing, and nutrition research, including new cafeteria infrastructure funding, additional Farm to School grants, and a new research investment.

SNA members were in the room, representing the day to day realities of school meal programs and making sure the perspective of school nutrition professionals was part of the conversation.
