𝐅𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐖𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲!

Students followed brown bears at Katmai National Park through live webcams while learning about ecosystems, adaptations, food webs and how bears prepare for winter hibernation.

Each student selected a bear from the competition, researched its characteristics and created a trading card or artwork highlighting what they learned.

It was a fun way to bring biology to life while exploring conservation and the important role brown bears play in their ecosystem.

Junior High Science students designed and hosted interactive games demonstrating real physics concepts, including Bowling

Pin Knockout, Magnetic Duck Fishing, and Matchapus Shoot.

Students combined creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning while sharing their games with others.

We love seeing science in action at NewHope Academy!

In ceramics, students are getting hands-on with clay while learning how to shape, build, and bring their ideas to life.

Along the way, they’re developing patience, problem-solving skills, confidence, and a willingness to try new techniques.

We love seeing our students express themselves, take creative risks, and create something uniquely their own.

Otis has been part of NHA for many years and continues to brighten students’ days. Students enjoy stopping by to see him, helping with his care, and learning more about his habits and environment.

Having Otis at school also provides a calming and therapeutic presence. He gives students a chance to slow down, connect with something positive, and take part in caring for a classroom animal. For many students, even a quick visit with Otis can be a small but meaningful part of their day.

𝐖𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐮𝐦 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲!

It was a great opportunity for families to meet teachers, follow their student’s schedule, and learn more about the wide variety of academic and elective opportunities available this year.

Families were able to hear about our core academic classes, Honors and AP options, and unique electives such as Thrills, Dungeons & Dragons, Art, Music, and Horticulture.

Our Horticulture program was also on display, including vegetables and flowers grown right here in our school garden!

We are so grateful to all of the families who joined us and to our staff for helping make the evening such a positive experience. We loved being able to showcase the creativity, variety, and individualized opportunities our students have at NewHope Academy.

We’re proud to celebrate NewHope Academy high school math teacher Sindhu Anantha, who recently completed the Relay Teacher Credentialing Program and earned her Learning Behavior Specialist 1 credential.

Through the program, Sindhu strengthened her skills in differentiated instruction, progress monitoring and culturally responsive teaching while continuing to support students in the classroom.

Her story reflects the dedication, growth and commitment our educators bring to their work every day.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐬𝐨 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝?

NewHope Academy students recently put their garden harvest to work by using freshly picked zucchini to make Apple Cinnamon Zucchini Muffins.

The activity gave students the chance to take something they helped grow and turn it into something they could prepare, bake, and enjoy while practicing cooking skills, measuring ingredients, following a recipe, and working together.

It was a great way to bring the garden-to-table process full circle.

At NewHope Academy, a lot of care, teamwork, and patience are paying off beautifully.

Students spent time during ESY planting, building, tending, and caring for the garden, and now they are seeing the results firsthand with tomatoes, peppers, onions, zucchini, watermelon, herbs, and more continuing to grow.

The learning doesn't stop at the harvest either.

NewHope Academy’s Horticulture class will be using what students grew to prepare favorites like pesto, pizza and pasta sauces, and plenty of zucchini bread.

It is a great example of hands-on learning coming full circle.

𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐫: Passport to Wellness, planned, organized, and led by our Leadership students.

Students and guests explored interactive stations focused on coping skills, executive functioning, creativity, self-care, therapy animals, hydration, and overall wellness. Activities included meeting therapy ponies, creating art, releasing worries, and learning practical strategies for supporting mental health.

Our Leadership students spent weeks researching topics, designing activities, creating displays and preparing to welcome guests with confidence and compassion.

Thank you to our students, staff, families, district partners, and community members who helped make the event such a meaningful success!
