Laity Gathering

An exciting event is happening on August 8th. The Board of Laity of the Arkansas Conference is hosting a study on The Social Principles. Neal Christie, who has worked very hard to get these assembled since the last General Conference, will be the speaker and one of the facilitators.

The event is a Zoom and begins at 9:30 with a brief devotional by Bishop Merrill, followed by Neal’s presentation. We will then have 4 breakout groups, each featuring one of the 4 Pillars of the Principles. You may choose Community of Creation, which focuses on environmental stewardship, indigenous rights, and environmental racism. Political Community addresses colonialism, human sexuality, racism, and peacebuilding. Economic Community covers poverty, workers’ rights, and stewardship of possessions. Social Community will feature community structure, marriage and personal conduct. Our facilitators for these breakout groups will be Melissa Simpson, Brenda Gullett, Michael Bynum, and Neal Christie. We will end at 12:00 pm as we are sent forth to be better followers of Jesus in a complicated society.

The Social Principles book is available from Cokesbury but is not necessary for this event.
