As many of you know, the Town of Apex will be holding municipal elections this November. Over the past four years I have been honored and blessed to serve on the Apex Town Council. Representing such a wonderful community has been my absolute privilege. Since the filing period is upon us, I want to announce publicly that I will not be running for a second term. I made this decision several months ago based on three important events that are taking place in my personal life.
We are joyously celebrating the upcoming marriage of my daughter and her fiancé next spring. Being the mother of the bride brings a large time commitment, and I don't want to miss out on a moment of this special occasion.
While my children are growing older, so is my mother. Turning eighty this fall, she will need more assistance and also more of my time. I am understanding what being a part of the “sandwich generation” really means.
And as some of you may have already heard, my husband and I have been approached about a new opportunity that will take us out of Apex. After living and working here for over 25 years, we have made the decision to relocate later this fall to manage The Bellemonte House, a bed and breakfast on the campus of North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, NC.
The term I served on the Apex Town Council presented me with unique opportunities to meet wonderful people and to gain knowledge about municipalities, economic development and so much more. I would encourage anyone thinking of stepping out of their comfort zone and serving on the council to do so. Working with the Town staff and the people of the number one town in America is a privilege and honor that will give you much reward.
I wish those running all the best and hope that they when elected will always choose to do what is right because it's right, not because it's popular.
