Today is International Overdose Awareness Day.

For 25 years, IOAD has brought people together to remember people who have died from overdose, support families and communities affected by loss, and take action to help prevent overdose.

This year's theme, "25 Years On. Still Needed.", reminds us that behind every statistic is a person — someone loved, valued, and missed.

Remember. Support. Prevent.

Kids don’t need alcohol to grow up. They need adults who show up. Underage drinking happens when we look away, but protecting them starts when we pay attention. Because prevention works best when everyone's in. It takes a village–and when that village stands together, kids stand a chance. https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/small-talks/underage-drinking-facts.htm

💬 Walls belong in buildings, not between people. As one community member in recovery shared, removing the barrier of stigma allows shame to fade and connection to grow. Our community is at its best when we support one another.

Help us bridge the gap by sharing our new Substance Use Asset Resource Map with those who need them most, it’s a judgment-free starting point for anyone ready to take the next step. https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=1chWsYeRsJ0OZ4olaR2NDMOgtZ4vr3WI&ll=45.0783849766792%2C-89.7604875&z=8with

It’s easy to miss the signs—until you can’t. When alcohol shows up where it doesn’t belong, kids pay the price when we ignore it. They’re not ready for the risks that come with drinking. But we are ready to prevent them. As the adults in their lives, we have to pay attention. Because every one of us plays a part in protecting the kids in our community. https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/small-talks/underage-drinking-facts.htm

No drink is harmless when it’s in the hands of a kid, and the damage can last long after the moment is over. But we have the power to protect them—to set boundaries, pay attention, and say no when it matters most. Because keeping alcohol out of childhood doesn’t fall on them, it falls on us. And it takes a village to get it right. https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/small-talks/underage-drinking-facts.htm

Alcohol and adolescence don’t mix. And when it shows up where kids are meant to live, learn, and grow, it’s more than disturbing—it’s dangerous. They can’t see the risk for what it is, but we can. Prevention is our job. As parents, as neighbors, as a community, it takes a village to keep our kids safe. To learn more: https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/small-talks/underage-drinking-facts.htm
