A student-led educational organization at the Naval Academy devoted to a deeper understanding of the intellectual tradition of the West.
The Libertas Forum is a student-led educational organization at the Naval Academy devoted to a deeper understanding of the intellectual tradition of the West, primarily principles that advance the idea of ordered liberty and civic virtue, which serve as the moral foundation of a free society. To pursue this end, we shall seek the wisdom of the past: ideas that have been tested and proven over the
course of two millennia. Within the context of contemporary society and the stimulating intellectual environment of the university, we aspire for a renewal of this dialogue. We shall examine a wide range of topics: religious, philosophic, cultural, political, and economic. We shall seek understanding, not conformity; respect and dignity of the human person will be upheld at all times. The Libertas Forum organizes speaker events and reading groups to actively promote its mission. Reading group participants meet twice a month to examine and discuss a particular individual or book. We believe continuing the noble tradition of civil discourse and debate, which is essential to the classical liberal arts education, will properly serve the intellectual mission of the United States Naval Academy. The Libertas Forum is grateful to the Intercollegiate Studies Institute and various donors for their continued support in our mission.
