Bard College - DBC Stem Cell Donor Drive

Bard College - DBC Stem Cell Donor Drive The purpose of this page is to keep you updated about the Stem Cell Donor Drive which is going to happen in the MPR on April 13.

Every 3 minutes in the U.S., someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer. For many patients, a stem cell transplant is the best chance for survival. However, this requires a donor who has almost the same exact stem cells, in other words almost a genetic twin. Finding this perfect match can be compared to finding a needle in a haystack. "Delete Blood Cancer" (http://www.deletebloodcancer.org/en) is th

e world's largest database of potential stem cell donors. Our mission is to help expand that database by organizing a stem cell donor drive on campus. The drive will take place on April 13th. And no, this is NOT the same as a blood donor drive! We both need students who will help us organize the event as well as students who are willing to volunteer on the day of the drive. If you are interested in helping, please send us an e-mail ([email protected]).

"What made you passionate about doing work for 'Delete Blood Cancer' ?"
"I'm passionate because I get to save lives. I feel like we should all try to save others and it sounds cliche but it's true. You can donate to a cause in Africa but you'll never know where your money goes. That's not the case here. When you take a few minutes to sign up to be a donor, you realize how small your problems are compared to saving someone's life. There's nothing worse than seeing someone die. I was happy to go through a lot of stress to organize events to get people to sign up to be donors. People say they have so many problems and so little time. That's true. But there is always time to save another person's life. If people invested some energy to contribute to a cause, then there would be less suffering in this world."

There are now over 300 Bardians signed up to be donors.

++ Volunteers needed ++++
Hey everybody! We still need volunteers who will help us run the drive! If you have time and would be willing to help anytime between 1-7pm (even if it's just for 1h), please send us a message ASAP. We will have free donuts for volunteers!
(Just to prevent confusion: You do not need to sign up to register as a potential donor).
