Last night, following the Matriculation Ceremony marking the completion of the Language and Thinking Program, the Office of Development and Alumni/ae Affairs hosted the annual Thank a Donor event. Incoming students enjoyed ice cream and wrote postcards of gratitude to Bard donors. Look for a postcard in your mailbox soon!

✨ Sky-high inspiration from Bardian Janet Echelman MFA '95! Her breathtaking net sculpture "A Sky Full of Hope: Earthtime 1.78 Frankfurt" just debuted over the Konstablerwache in Frankfurt, Germany — transforming the urban skyline into a floating, glowing work of art. Janet's large-scale installations have graced cities around the world, and we love seeing her creative vision reach new heights (literally!). 🌆

Yesterday was Democracy Day at Bard — our annual tradition of connecting the work we do as an academic institution to our lives as citizens in a democracy. 🗳️

This year, the Center for Civic Engagement teamed up with Parkhurst Dining Services and the Office of Development and Alumni/ae Affairs to throw a block party on campus! Food trucks, a DJ, and the chance to connect with campus resources and local community partners — what a day.

Ever heard of Professor John Grey who taught History at Bard in the 1950s, at least he did in the X-Men comics. Don’t believe us, check out X-Men The Animated Series episode “On Man’s Worth.” He has a pretty intense conversation with fellow Bardian, Professor Charles Xavier. And if the name Grey rings a bell, well then you might be thinking of his daughter Jean Grey (AKA Phoenix). Jean Grey was born in Annandale, and would become one of the founding members of the X-Men. Jean Grey has been portrayed on screen by Famke Janssen, Sophie Turner, and her most recent portrayal by Sadie Sink can be seen in Spiderman: Brand New Day.

But there is another connection to Bard, alumnus and comic book writer, Chris Claremont ‘72. However, his first comic wasn’t an X-Men issue, but Daredevil Vol. 1 #102 titled, Daredevil and Black Widow. Claremont’s most anticipated project coming up is an Alien vs X-Men comic set to be released in September.

Congratulations to filmmaker Rebeca Huntt ’12! Her new documentary "Rapinoe," about soccer legend Megan Rapinoe, will have its world premiere as the opening film of TIFF Docs at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, running Sep. 10–20. 🎬⚽️

Huntt is known for her deeply personal, boundary-pushing documentary work — and we can't wait to see what she brings to Rapinoe's story.

Tracy Feldman ’95, an ecologist, author of the Moths of North Carolina website, and assistant nature preserve manager for the City of Raleigh, has a new species named in his honor: Keiferia feldmani, a leaf-mining moth.

Feldman found the larvae from which most of the moths used to formally describe the species were reared—a pretty amazing contribution to the study of North Carolina’s biodiversity.

Congratulations to Christine Sun Kim MFA ’13, whose first large-scale, site-specific commission, Have Many Dumb Fights Against Rock, is now on view at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Seoul, South Korea.

The groundbreaking exhibition has been featured by both The Korea Times and The Korea Herald, celebrating Kim's innovative exploration of language, communication, and accessibility through immersive installation art. The exhibition runs through Nov. 29 at MMCA Seoul’s Seoul Box.
