It is so important that the instruction and feedback given to students is evidence based and not using the 'debunked' methodology from 'balanced literacy/whole language' approach. The right strategies can set students up for success!

Ensure that sounding out is the prioritised strategy for decoding and that feedback is based on letter/sound knowledge first. Students can then check for understanding and self correct if necessary using context and language knowledge.

Decodable readers will be the best texts to support the ‘decoding’ process.
